Job description

 

To support the kitchen team by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation within the kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety and health & safety standards.

 

What the job involves:

 

Kitchen & Cleaning Duties

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment promptly and efficiently
  • Keep all kitchen areas clean, tidy, and well organised at all times
  • Clean floors, walls, work surfaces, and waste areas in line with cleaning schedules
  • Ensure bins are emptied regularly and waste is disposed of correctly 

Food & Kitchen Support

  • Assist chefs with basic food preparation as required (e.g. peeling, chopping, portioning)
  • Receive, unpack, and store deliveries safely and correctly
  • Rotate stock and support correct food storage procedures
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored safely after use 

Health, Safety & Hygiene

  • Follow food hygiene, health & safety, and COSHH procedures at all times
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly
  • Report any hazards, damaged equipment, or safety concerns immediately
  • Maintain high personal hygiene standards 

Team Support

  • Work collaboratively with chefs and kitchen colleagues
  • Support service during busy periods as directed
  • Be flexible in duties to meet the needs of the business 

Skills & Experience

 

Essential

  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Good attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Willingness to follow instructions and procedures
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or similar environment
  • Basic food hygiene knowledge (training can be provided)
